Choosing the right grit
Coarse grits (24–40) strip welds and heavy scale fast but leave a rough finish. Medium grits (60–120) suit general deburring and blending between passes. Fine grits (180–600) are for pre-paint finishing and stainless surfaces where surface marks matter. As a rule, work through no more than two grit steps at a time to avoid deep scratches that the next grit can't remove.
